While Frida was waiting for the recordings in ABBA - The Movie, the photographer saw a great opportunity to take some pictures of the Beauty of ABBA. I think he did a nice job!

The three videos below bring songs that ABBA hasn't recorded officially. It's a pity, since some of them are great, in my opinion, like Scaramouche, Hamlet III and Just Like That. On the videos you can also listen to ABBA having fun with the songs Summer Night City, Money, Money, Money and Here Comes Rubie Jamie, besides a nice piano solo for Take A Chance On Me.

As I don't know Swedish and I was really curious to know what ABBA is saying in this language in the audios below, I asked my Swedish friend Henrik to help me with the translation of them into English. All you can read below was translated by him, so that I thank him so much for this.

First song (from 0:00 to 0:50): Scaramouche

After Scaramouche, Frida asks "Why it should always be so serious?" and Agnetha seems to agree with her and says something like "In England, it wasn't so". Around 0:57, Björn, Agnetha and Benny play around while say their names and, as Benny says it with a low and feeble voice, Frida laughs and asks him "Is it hard to talk?". Björn laughs too and says "It's difficult with this announcement".

Second song (from 1:08 to 1:29): Summer Night City/Money, Money, Money (the band is just playing around with them)

Third song (from 1:37 to 3:30): Take A Chance On Me

After Take A Chance On Me, Frida says “You have to turn down the piano, because it is sharp in the ears.” So Björn claims: “Very miserable listening...”. Soon after Agnetha says “I only hear Frida in my headphones.” And Frida: “And I only hear you”.They all start to joke with each other with silly voices: “How to do now?...”; “Fix better listening!...”; “Yeah, Yeah!”; “I sink!”; “I sink too!”; and so on.

Fourth song (from 3:51 to 4:55): Baby (this song, sung by Agnetha, was the first version of Rock Me, witch has Björn on lead vocals)

Fifth song (from 4:56 to 6:33): Just A Notion

After Just A Notion, Benny or Björn asks “Is it good?” The other answers “Well, I think we can have that, it is also a bit unusual!” and then, the first one says “That's it, nowadays”. Someone says something in the background that makes everyone laugh. It’s difficult to listen to, though, because of lots of other sounds all the time.

Everybody agrees that Burning My Bridges isn’t good at all and someone jokes about it in a way that unfortunately only Swedes can understand (according to Henrik).

After Fernando, someone says (maybe Björn) around 2:46 that the song worked really well. They all agree with that.

Third song (from 2:50 to 3:25): Here Comes Rubie Jamie

After Here Comes Rubie Jamie, someone says “A f*** nasty situation...”. :O And all of them laugh.

Fourth song (from 3:30 to 5:48): Hamlet III

Frida and Agnetha weren't very good at dancing on stage. Indeed, Frida liked to dance and do funny things while she sang, but we have to admit neither Frida nor Agnetha were really talented at dancing. However, with their marvellous voices, their dance moves brought both grace and beauty to ABBA performances. That's why I like their cute and funny choreography.

ABBA girls did few choreography during the time of the band. The choreography of Dancing Queen is one of the most famous. But can you imagine for which song they did the move dances below?

On November 15th, 1945, Frida was born. She has passed through a lot of experiences in her life, but, regardless of happy or sad moments, what always stands out of Frida's behaviour and feelings is the best of her. In other words, love is what invariably leads Frida's steps, making her character even stronger and, her heart, more open and generous. That's why I love and I'll always admire her.

Of course some of the pictures that I find aren't rare to everybody, though I'm sure they can really be unknown to many people as they are to me. Firstly, I would like to apologize for my long and unusual silence for so many weeks. I've been very busy lately, so that I couldn't do new posts to you. Actually I'm going to be busy for the next one or two months; so I'm not going to post here for this time. I'd like to emphasize that' it is not a good bye. It's only a suspension of my activities for a while.

Secondly, I'd like to thank you very much for all your support and appreciation for my work on Thank You For The Music, ABBA since I created it. My blog is turning two years old in the next August 29 and it makes me very happy, as I didn't expect it could happen when I thought of doing my blog. Who doesn't like babies' pictures? Babies are the cutest thing to take pictures. They are sweet and smiling and, when they're plump, they're simply irresistible! Then, when we think about ABBA as babies, I do think we have a great combination...

However, Frida and Agnetha tried to look joyful for the photographers on their visit to Saarbrücken, Germany, and I think the result was really good. ABBA girls were simply beautiful on the pictures, some of which we can see on this post.

ABBA goes sports! - article originally published in Dutch magazine Joepie, in November 1978

For several days, Benny had not been feeling especially well when he went to see a befriended doctor in Stockholm. Had he simply been working too hard or was there really something wrong? That question had already caused Benny several sleepless nights and it still took quite some time before he finally gathered his courage and went to see his friend.

The diagnosis relieved all Benny’s fears. “What you need, is some more exercise,” his friend told him. “You are a bit stressed, that’s all...”. Benny: “I have never felt this relieved in my entire life. But this little incident still got me thinking: aren’t we all working way too hard and aren’t we asking too much of ourselves? During a meeting, we discussed this subject and everyone was convinced right away: we should get more exercise!”

And he kept his word: barely one day later, he became a member of a tennis club in Stockholm. Benny: “I had been playing tennis before with Frida, but at the club I got genuine champions as my opponents. I sweated like a horse and the next day my muscles were completely stiff. But I’m feeling much better now. I go there at least once a week, if I’m home that is...”.

Lovely wife Frida chose a more relaxing kind of sports: jazz dancing. She became a student at the Stockholm Ballet Academy where she gets two hours of tuition every other week. Frida: “I’ve always been interested in jazz ballet, but I never had the time for it. Now that we are taking the time to do some sports, I decided to sign myself up. The plan is that I will be demonstrating some of these dance moves next year on our upcoming tour.

Björn even went as far that he signed himself up for the Lidingö, a marathon of thirty kilometres. Björn didn’t finish first, but he still ran the entire track. “And I think that’s quite an accomplishment for me,” according to Björn. “I have been in training for two weeks for that competition and during that period I have forced up the amount of kilometres. But thirty kilometres is still a lot, believe me. I have to admit that I have walked a couple of kilometres, but I wasn’t the only one. I’m not planning to join these kinds of competitions regularly. I actually did this one more to please the organizer. But these days I do run four or five kilometres every day”.

Anna is now regularly getting into her jogging gear as well to loosen up her legs. “But I would never consider to join in a competition,” she says. “I’d rather determine my own pace...”.

Durante vários dias, Benny não se sentiu muito bem. Por isso, decidiu consultar-se com um médico amigo seu. Estaria ele simplesmente trabalhando demais? Ou haveria, de fato, algo sério? Essa dúvida o levou a uma série de noites maldormidas, tomando-lhe boa parte do tempo até que ele tivesse coragem suficiente para procurar seu amigo.

Contudo, o diagnóstico apazigou todos os seus temores. "Você precisa praticar mais exercícios físicos", disse-lhe o médico. "Seu problema é apenas o estresse, nada mais". "Nunca me senti tão aliviado em toda a minha vida. Esse pequeno incidente, porém, me fez pensar: afinal, não estaríamos todos nós trabalhando e cobrando-nos demais? Discutimos esse assunto num encontro e nos convencemos de que deveríamos praticar mais exercícios", declara Benny.

E, de fato, ele manteve sua palavra: apenas um dia após a discussão, tornou-se membro de um clube de tênis de Estocolmo. "Eu costumava jogar tênis com Frida, mas, no clube, pude realizar jogadas com verdadeiros campeões. Suava feito um cavalo e, no dia seguinte, meus músculos estavam completamente rígidos. Agora, contudo, estou me sentindo bem melhor. Ao menos uma vez por semana, quando possível, frequento o clube", diz Benny.

Frida, sua adorável esposa, por sua vez, escolheu um tipo mais relaxante de esporte: dança jazz. Ela se tornou aluna da Academia de Balé de Estocolmo, onde faz duas horas de aula a cada duas semanas. "Eu sempre me interessei por balé jazz, mas nunca tinha tempo para praticá-lo. Porém, já que resolvemos dedicar algum tempo aos esportes, decidi me matricular. Meu plano é exibir alguns dos movimentos dessa dança em nossa próxima turnê, no ano que vem", comenta.

Björn, por outro lado, foi tão longe no assunto que se inscreveu na maratona de trinta quilômetros de Lidingö, na qual, embora não tenha terminado em primeiro, conseguiu percorrer toda a pista. "E eu considero esta uma grande conquista", ele diz. "Treinei por duas semanas para a competição e, nesse período, cheguei a aumentar a quilometragem. Pode estar certo, porém, de que trinta quilômetros já é muito. Tenho que admitir que consegui correr apenas alguns, apesar de não ter sido o único. Mas não planejo participar regularmente dessas competições; só ingressei nesta, para agradar seu organizador. Ainda assim, atualmente corro quatro ou cinco quilômetros por dia".

Já Anna regularmente veste sua roupa de cooper, a fim de movimentar mais as pernas. "Mas eu jamais pensaria em me envolver numa competição", ela diz. "Prefiro poder estabeler meu próprio ritmo...".

Different roles

ABBA members can play different roles than those ones we are used to witness. With that, they show why their pop band has become a successful group worldwide. Indeed, ABBA members are very versatile. So let's see some of their different musical talents...

"Music is my life"

Frida plays the piano since she was a little girl. Once she told that reading and playing the piano used to be her main hobbies, when she was a child

In 1984, Frida proved her talent as a pianist, when she composed at the piano one of her most famous solo songs - Don't Do It

Just like her friend, Agnetha has the same talent and she also composed songs at the piano

But I didn't know that Björn could play the piano until I saw this picture!

And Benny can sing!

I've commented I love ABBA not only because of the great musical talent of that band, but also because of the kindness, honesty and simplicity of ABBA members. In fact, that's the most important. But I guess I've forgotten to mention another great deal... their playful character!

Yes, we can't forget it. Have you ever counted how many times you've seen ABBA pictures in which they're playing in parks and playing tricks on each other? Not to mention those photos with lots of stuffed animals as if they were children... enjoy this post with a sample of their funny spirit.

ABBA shines on 1979 tour

ABBA, the highlights of their '79 show - Hits, blown upon blown - article originally published by German magazine Bravo, in October 1979

It was the ultimate ABBA triumph: after an almost two-hour-long show at the Coliseum in Edmonton, Canada, 14.000 spectators were cheering the Swedish supergroup on. It was ABBA’s first live performance after two and a half years, the first concert on the American continent and at the same time the kick-off of their mammoth tour lasting several months through the USA and Europe.

ABBA likes to start their tours high up north. And Edmonton in the federal capital Alberta is the city that is situated the highest up north in Canada.

September 13 was ABBA day in Edmonton: the radio stations played ABBA hits non-stop, and continuously the radio reporters reported the latest news about the rehearsals at the Coliseum. Even late in the afternoon, before the concert, ABBA was on stage to put the finishing touch to their show.

Then the time had come. A narrator announced that ABBA would put on a ninety minute show, without a break. That’s why the concert attendees made sure they had a sufficient supply of sweets, popcorn and coke.

The lights in the hall faded, the deep blue curtains at the end of the hall (where usually ice hockey is being played) were illuminated, festive organ sounds were resonating.

When the curtain was lifted, ABBA was standing on stage in a bright red light. On the left Björn, then Agnetha and Anni-Frid and ultimately Benny who rapidly walked from the organ in the background to the piano in the forestage. During the first chords of the opening song, Agnetha and Anni-Frid were stretching both arms widely. Their beautiful capes in silver and white with the reversed ABBA triangle in three different shades of blue established a large triangle.

In the whole ABBA show, the colours white and blue were dominating and triangles were the predominating shapes. In the background, triangles in different shades of blue – the official ABBA trademark for this tour – were looming in front of a white wall and in all the costumes of the musicians, white was the dominating colour. Even the roadies were wearing snow-white overalls. With the ultraviolet light, the whole stage looked like a giant ice crystal.

They were enthusiastically welcomed by the audience with their opening song ‘Voulez-Vous’. After this latest hit, Agnetha and Anni-Frid went backstage, to take off their triangle capes. They came back in a skin tight white jersey with blue stripes on the upper part. Around their hips, they had wrapped a refined white-blue triangle cloth, that was yet again removed after a couple of songs. White leather boots completed their white-blue stage outfit.

Björn was wearing a shiny jersey in bright violet, completed with a white jacket and white boots. Benny was dressed in white trousers and a white jacket over a naked upper body. On his chest, a blue tie was dangling.

‘Knowing Me, Knowing You’ was the second song, after which Björn introduced all the group members. The last one to be introduced was Agnetha with the words: “The tall blonde, my former wife. And I’m not sure if she is as good as you.” This was a hint to Agnetha’s next song ‘As Good As New’. Subsequently, on her way to the microphone, Agnetha walked past Björn and jokingly insinuated that she was going to give him a blow to the jaw.

After that, Björn performed his solo ‘Rock Me’, whereby he was rocking wildly across the stage. This was followed by a song for Anni-Frid: ‘One Man, One Woman’. Then something unusual happened: Agnetha announced a song that was written by one of the backing singers and ABBA switched parts with their backing group: all of a sudden the guitarist had become the lead singer and the backing singer was sitting at the piano. The ABBA stars retreated to the background: Björn was playing the tambourine, Benny was handling the rhythm section and Anni-Frid and Agnetha joined the backing singers.

From then on it was blow upon blow: Agnetha sang ‘Chiquitita’, Anni-Frid ‘Money, Money, Money’ (with a cigarette holder in her hand). They performed ‘SOS’, ‘Fernando’, ‘Name Of The Game’ – one hit after the other.

Then came another surprise: after two verses of Anni-Frid’s song ‘I Have A Dream’, both ABBA girls went backstage and came back with 20 children. They came from a children’s choir in Edmonton, and they finished the song with both girls. The audience was so ecstatic that they had to repeat the last verse. Many a time during the show, Benny’s piano was raised on a hydraulic platform, so that he could play standing up, like he did in ‘Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! A Man After Midnight’, ‘Take A Chance On Me’, ‘Does Your Mother Know’ and ‘Summer Night City’. Anni-Frid offered a special surprise as well. When she appeared on stage during one song wearing a hat and a large Oilers T-shirt – the Edmonton ice hockey team – she got an extra applause from the audience.

For the last three songs, Agnetha and Anni-Frid appeared on stage in a dark blue jersey. And during ‘It’s Gotta Be Rock ‘n’ Roll’, all four of them were centre stage, romping around, while the blue triangles in the background suddenly started moving and an illuminated ABBA logo became visible. The audience was raging with excitement.

However, this was the finale of the concert. But obviously the 14.000 spectators were clapping their hands until they got an encore. The four Swedes came back on stage. Benny was provided with an accordion and together they sang ‘The Way Old Friends Do’, a sentimental song that tells the story about old friends that will always stay together. And this was followed by the big bang: the song was segued into ‘Dancing Queen’, the biggest hit that ABBA ever had in the USA. The ovations seemed to have no end.

14.000 delighted audience members left the hall in Edmonton. And the four Swedes can rest assured that they will gain a lot of new fans with their amazing stage show on this tour.

Esse foi o mais recente triunfo do ABBA: depois de quase duas horas de show no Coliseu, em Edmonton, no Canadá, 14000 espectadores aplaudiram a super banda sueca. Após dois anos e meio, essa foi a primeira performance ao vivo do grupo, assim como o primeiro show no continente americano e, ao mesmo tempo, o pontapé inicial de sua gigantesca turnê pelos EUA e pela Europa, que duraria vários meses.

O ABBA, de fato, gosta de começar suas turnês no extremo norte e, Edmonton, na capital federal, Alberta, é a cidade situada no mais alto ponto do norte do Canadá.

Para o grupo, treze de setembro foi seu dia especial, em Edmonton: as estações de rádio tocaram, sem parar, os hits da banda e, continuamente, os repórteres das estações divulgavam as últimas notícias a respeito dos ensaios no Coliseu. Já no final da tarde, antes da apresentação, o ABBA subiu ao palco a fim de dar um toque final aos preparativos para seu show.

Então, a hora chegou. O narrador anunciou que a banda faria uma apresentação de noventa minutos, sem pausa; daí a necessidade de o público se certificar de que possuía um suprimento suficiente de doces, pipoca e coca-cola.

As luzes do hall (onde, geralmente, são realizados jogos de hóquei no gelo) diminuíram e, no final do salão, as cortinas azul-marinho foram iluminadas, enquanto um alegre som de órgão se fazia ouvir.

Quando as cortinas se levantaram, o ABBA estava ali, no palco, sob uma brilhante luz vermelha. À esquerda, encontrava-se Björn e, então, Agnetha e Frida, aparecendo, por último, Benny, o qual, rapidamente, correu do órgão, situado nos fundos do palco, até o piano, à frente. Durante os primeiros acordes da música de abertura, Agnetha e Anni-Frid esticaram totalmente seus braços. Suas belas capas nas cores prata e branco formaram, de ponta-cabeça e em três tons de azul, o enorme triângulo-símbolo do ABBA.

Durante todo o show, na verdade, branco e azul foram as cores predominantes e, os triângulos, os símbolos da vez. Essas formas - que representam a marca do grupo, nessa turnê - apareciam, em diferentes tonalidades azuladas, nos fundos do placo, em frente a uma parede clara. O branco, por sua vez, dominava o figurino de todos os músicos, de forma que mesmo os rodies o usavam em macacões próximos à cor da neve; e, em meio a uma luz ultravioleta, o palco se assemelhava a um gigante cristal de gelo.

O quarteto foi entusiasticamente aplaudido pelo público, ao abrir o show com Voulez Vous. Então, após se apresentarem com seu mais novo hit, Agnetha e Anni-Frid se dirigiram aos bastidores a fim de trocar de roupa. As duas logo retornaram em um macacão branco colado no corpo e com listras azuis na parte superior. Ao redor de seus quadris, por outro lado, as garotas traziam enrolado um refinado lenço azul e branco em formato de triângulo, que, contudo, foi removido após determinadas performances; botas de couro claro completavam seus trajes de palco em azul e branco.

Já Björn vestia um apertado macacão em um tom de roxo claro, acompanhado por jaqueta e botas brancos; Benny vestia calças também brancos e uma jaqueta que deixava seu peito à mostra, com uma gravata pendurada sobre o mesmo.

Após Knowing Me, Knowing You, a segunda canção tocada, Björn introduziu o quarteto. A última a ser apresentada foi Agnetha, sob as palavras "A loira alta, minha ex-esposa. E não estou certo de que ela seja tão boa quanto vocês", o que representou uma deixa para a música seguinte, As Good As New, cantada por Agnetha. Na sequência, enquanto caminhava até o microfone, a loira aproximou-se de Björn e, brincando, fingiu estar prestes a lhe dar um soco no queixo.

Após a terceira canção, Björn apresentou seu solo em Rock Me, balançando-se energicamente no palco. Então, Frida cantou One Man, One Woman e, em seguida, algo incomum aconteceu: Agnetha anunciou uma canção que tinha sido escrita por um dos backing vocals e o ABBA juntou-se aos cantores de apoio, transformando, num instante, um guitarrista em vocalista e, um backing singer, em tecladista. As estrelas da banda retiraram-se para os fundos: Björn tocava um tambor, Benny controlava a área rítmica e as garotas davam suporte aos cantores de apoio.

A partir daí, foi sucesso seguido de sucesso: Agnetha cantou Chiquitita e, Anni-Frid - com um cigarro na mão -, Money, Money, Money. Apresentaram-se também com S.O.S., Fernando, The Name Of The Game - um hit atrás de outro.

Logo, veio outra surpresa: após dois versos da canção I Have A Dream, de Anni-Frid, ambas as garotas do ABBA se dirigiram aos bastidores para, então, trazer consigo vinte crianças oriundas do coral infantil de Edmonton, que, com Frida e Agnetha, cantaram a música. O público ficou tão excitado que chegou a repetir o último verso. Muitas vezes, durante o show, o piano de Benny foi erguido por uma platoforma hidráulica, de modo que ele pudesse tocar em pé, como em Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (a man after midnight), em Take A Chance On Me, em Does Your Mother Know? e em Summer Night City. Anni-Frid também ofereceu uma surpresa especial: ao aparecer com um chapéu e uma larga camiseta do Oilers - o time de hóquei de Edmonton -, ela obteve aplausos extras do público.

Esse teria sido o final do show, se os 14000 espectadores presentes não estivessem batendo palmas a fim de pedir ao grupo para continuar; assim, o quarteto voltou aos palcos. During the rehearsals for their 41-city-tour, ABBA was almost completely shielded from the outer world. Still, Rocky was able to talk to them.

“Actually, this time we didn’t want to do any interviews at all, until the rehearsals for our new tour had been completed”, Björn explained, when the four from ABBA arrived right on time for the scheduled photo session. “Because we don’t want to take the risk that glitches will occur during the first concerts of our tour and our fans will be disappointed.”

The team from Sweden has plenty of fans. The concerts in England, Scotland and Ireland with 75.000 tickets available, were sold out within one day. In Denmark, the ABBA tickets were even on sale for only half a day.

“Of course, that’s a great success for us”, says Anni-Frid, “but it means a tremendous obligation as well. We have to be better than ever.”

And to live up to these expectations, the entire ABBA crew, together with six musicians and three backing singers, withdrew in a film studio in Stockholm for almost a month.

“We have tried out every step, every song, every sound and light effect, until we were fed up with it”. No one wanted or was allowed to tell us how their costumes and their show will look like. “Whoever says something, will be sacked”, Benny threatened, “because we want to offer a real surprise to our fans. Everything that’s being said about it before the start of the tour is very far-fetched”.

When ABBA comes to Germany at the end of October, they will already have performed 19 concerts. “But you don’t need to worry that we will be too worn out by then to put on a good show”, Agnetha remarked preventively. “We love our job, and when we get a good response from the audience and we don’t get bugged too much in between the concerts, the stress of the tour doesn’t matter to us”.

"Nós experimentamos cada passo, cada canção, cada som e cada efeito de iluminação, até que estivéssemos satisfeitos com todos". Ninguém quis ou teve permissão para nos revelar como seriam seus trajes e seus shows. "Quem disser algo será demitido", ameaçou Benny, "uma vez que desejamos oferecer uma surpresa genuína a nossos fãs. Têm sido ditas coisas muito exageradas a respeito desses assuntos, mesmo não tendo começado a turnê".

Quando o ABBA chegar à Alemanha, no final de outubro, o quarteto já terá realizado dezenove shows. "Isso, porém, não significa que vocês devam se preocupar e temer que o nosso desgaste nos impeça de realizar um bom show", previne Agnetha. "Nós amamos nosso trabalho e, quando recebemos um retorno positivo do público e não ficamos muito aborrecidos entre as apresentações, o cansaço da turnê simplesmente não nos incomoda".

BENNY GIVES ME COURAGE IN MY DARKEST MOMENTS

- Last summer it was something began to happen with me, says Anni-Frid Lyngstad. I had a new inner security, something I've been missing before. A new harmony in my existance.

- I had taken the whole summer off and my two children were here with me. I was able to relax and felt very good. And the whole time my relationship with Benny was also very nice and harmonic.

- Then, when I started to work in the fall - on a tour with Roffe Berg - then I suddenly felt the change. Suddenly it was such a joy to work. I dared to let go like never before. I felt more free and more secure.

• Frida has had some success lately, both as a solo artist and in a group together with her fiancé Benny Andersson and their best friends Agnetha Fältskog and Björn Ulvaeus. Just recently they had a number one hit on Europatoppen.

Anni-Frid has had the chance to travel around in the world. This winter she sang in Japan. Recently she participated in a song festival in Venezuela for a week. She has done television in Austria.

- In some way it feels much more fun to sing this year, says Frida. And what I'm most pleased about is that it's going so well for the four of us. I like it best when I sing together with the others. Then I get a feeling of security from them. We have a security among us. I don't have to feel alone, little, scared and nervous. And it's wonderful to work together with Benny.

- Benny means so much to me, both in private and in my work. He is always there for me. He gives me strength.

- I used to think it was difficult to work and live together. That it would make you tired of each other when you're together all the time. But now, when we are more settled in our relationship and we feel safe with each other, it's just comfortable.

- Benny and I are quite different, and naturally there has been conflicts and missunderstandings sometimes. Benny is more outgoing, happy and positive. I'm more of a serious kind of person.

- I'm sensitive and can get depressed, fall into dark periods when everything feels difficult and insurmountable. Last spring, for example, I was having a time like that. One thinks everything is pointless and boring. You want to reinvent yourself. Maybe change what you are doing. Sometimes I have even thought about giving up the singing. I've been thinking "What am I doing"?

- During times like that Benny is always there for me and he gives me new courage. He won't accept that I let myself fall down into darkness and despair, instead he makes me do something. And I have become much move even tempered now, calmer.

- Benny has a lot of patience with me, and with everything. He is warm and tender. I can talk with him about anything, I don't have to keep feeling bottled up inside. When you feel that someone like Benny cares so much for you - then it becomes an enormous strength. It makes you strong. And safe.

- I could never live on my own. I have a very big need to live together with someone. Before I met Benny - after I left my old life in Eskilstuna - I was alone for quite a while. It was horrible! I could never stand to go through that again.

- The most important thing for me is together with someone and make it work. The career comes second.

• Anni-Frid has been married before and has two children, Hans, 10 years old and Lotta, 6 years old. They mostly live with their father in Eskilstuna, but regularly comes to visit Anni-Frid and Benny.

- Being together with my children is also very important to me, says Anni-Frid. If I didn't have the children, my life would seem empty! Benny and the children are the best I have.

- I have a very good relationship with my children. It's very good when you can have that arrangement after a divorce. It has never been a problem for us. Never any conflicts or a tug-of-war over the children. We have arranged it the way we both feel is the best for the children. And now they are old enough to understand how it works.

- Sometimes they can be with me for weeks. It's good for their father to get some rest every now and then, since he has them most of the time. Naturally, I have missed them terribly sometimes, but we do have each other. We talk to each other over the phone several times a week. It's such a nice feeling when I pick up the phone and hear "Hi, it's Hans, how are you?". They tell me about everything, their likes and dislikes. About when they recently had the chicken pox. How Hans is doing in school. He is in the fourth grade now. I like it when they turn to me, I enjoy giving them advice and help.

• The children often comes and visit Anni-Frid and Benny at their house in Vallentuna, where they moved about a year ago. There the children have their own room. Sometimes during the holidays both Anni-Frid's two children and Benny's two come at the same time. That makes for a lively time in the house.

- It's wonderful to live outside of the city, says Anni-Frid. We have the woods just around the corner. It's everything we dreamed it would be. We often take long walks and go skiing when there's snow. It's such a difference to the small city apartment and the air is so much cleaner.

- Last summer the children spent a lot of time here with me. Hans went to camp for a while, but Lotta was here all summer. We spent almost all of our time at the local swimmingpool, swimming and sunbathing.

- Benny and I don't plan on having any more children, we already have four together. But I guess you never know.

- We are still working on the house. There is still a lot to be done. It takes time to get a house in order. We have done a lot of the work ourselves. We did the new upholstery on the couches together and I have been sewing curtains and covers for the furniture.

- I enjoy doing things around the house. It's mostly me who does the cooking. I like experimenting. Benny is not so fond of cooking, but he doesn't mind cleaning. We live like most families in our spare time. We watch TV, talk, read, take walks with our dog. I draw and paint and I enjoy sewing. I have always liked that. Last year I went through Tillskärarakademien to learn how sew professionally.

- We have discussed getting married. But we haven't - as strange as it may sound - had the time to do it yet! Mainly because we have decided that once we do get married we will have a three day long wedding party! We will invite all our friends and have a great time. The ceremony itself is really not that important to us, but we want that as well. We do want a church wedding and I want to wear a long, white dress.

- We talk a lot about music at our home of course. It's both a hobby and our profession. Lately the four of us, Benny and I and Björn and Agnetha, have spent almost all our time together. Especially since we are neighbours here in Vallentuna now. And it's working out great. The first time when we worked together it became quite heated, it was on a restaurant tour a couple of years ago. Back then we didn't know each other that well. But now we have learned to discuss without any hard words among us.

- We really ought to get a group name. Right now we just use our names, but "Björn", "Agnetha" and "Frida" are difficult to pronounce abroad. Right now we are working on an album in English together. And this spring there will be a TV-show and a radio show where we will be hosting. During summer we will go on tour in the folkparks for three months. But it will only be Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Benny and Björn are working as producers during the normal weekdays. I plan to have some time off and I think the children will come and visit me again.

- Verão passado, algo começou a acontecer comigo, diz Anni-Frid Lyngstad. Senti uma nova segurança interior, algo de que eu havia sentido falta, até então. Senti uma nova harmonia em minha existência.

- Eu estava passando o verão fora e meus dois filhos estavam comigo. Fui capaz de relaxar e me senti bastante segura. Além disso, meu relacionamento com Benny foi muito agradável e harmonioso.

- Então, quando comecei a trabalhar, no outono - em uma turnê com Roffe Berg -, senti, repentinamente, a mudança. Senti o quão prazeroso era trabalhar e me soltei como jamais tinha sido capaz antes. Senti-me mais livre e mais segura também.

• Ultimamente, Frida tem feito considerável sucesso, tanto como cantora solo quanto como membro de um grupo, ao lado de seu noivo, Benny Andersson, e de seus melhores amigos, Agnetha Fältskog e Björn Ulvaeus. Recentemente, a banda teve um hit em primeiro lugar no Europatoppen.

Anni-Frid tem tido a oportunidade de viajar ao redor do mundo. Neste inverno, por exemplo, ela cantou no Japão; mais tarde, participou por uma semana de um festival de música na Venezuela; e, atualmente, tem participado de programas de TV na Áustria.

- De certa forma, este ano tem sido mais divertido cantar, diz Frida. E o que mais me agrada é que isso tem sido bom para nós quatro. Gosto mais de cantar, quando posso fazer isso com os outros, pois deles advém uma sensação de segurança, a qual é comum entre nós. Dessa forma, não preciso me sentir sozinha, diminuída, amedrontada ou nervosa. Sem contar que é maravilhoso trabalhar com Benny.

- Benny significa muitíssimo para mim, tanto em minha vida privada quanto em meu trabalho. Ele sempre me apoia, dando-me força.

- Eu costumava pensar que fosse difícil trabalhar e viver juntos; que isso fizesse com que um se cansasse do outro, por estar o tempo todo ao lado do mesmo. Agora que nosso relacionamento está mais estável e que nos sentimos seguros juntos, contudo, essa situação é simplesmente confortável.

- Benny e eu somos muito diferentes e, por consequência, há conflitos e desentendimentos entre nós, às vezes. Benny é mais extrovertido, mais feliz e mais otimista, enquanto eu sou um tipo mais sério de pessoa.

- Sou sensível e posso me deprimir, passando por períodos sombrios, nos quais tudo parece difícil e intransponível. Primavera passada, por exemplo, experimentei um momento desses, em que as coisas me pareciam inúteis e tediosas. Nessas horas, você tem vontade de se reinventar, de mudar, talvez, aquilo que está fazendo. Às vezes, eu chegava até a pensar em desistir de cantar. Indagava a mim mesma, "O que eu estou fazendo?".

- É justamente durante esses períodos que Benny me apoia e renova minha coragem. Ele não aceita me ver entregue à escuridão e ao desespero, estimulando-me a me ocupar de alguma atividade. Com essa ajuda, tenho me tornado muito mais equilibrada, muito mais calma.

- Benny tem muitíssima paciência em relação a mim e a respeito de tudo. Ele é muito caloroso e sensível. E, assim, posso conversar sobre qualquer assunto, sem reservas. Quando você sente que há alguém que se importa tanto com seu bem-estar, esse sentimento transforma-se numa enorme força, tornando-o forte e seguro.

- Eu jamais poderia morar sozinha, pois sinto uma grande necessidade de viver ao lado de outra pessoa. Antes de conhecer Benny - após deixar minha antiga vida em Eskilstuna -, fiquei sozinha por certo tempo, o que foi horrível! Jamais poderia passar por isso novamente.

- O mais importante, para mim, é estar junto de alguém e fazer com que essa relação dê certo. A carreira vem em segundo lugar.

• Anni-Frid foi casada antes e teve dois filhos, Hans, de 10 anos de idade, e Lotta, de 6. Ainda que as duas crianças passem a maior parte do tempo com seu pai, em Eskilstuna, visitam Anni-Frid e Benny com regularidade.

- Estar junto de meus filhos é tambem muito importante para mim, diz Frida. Se eu não tivesse minhas crianças, minha vida seria vazia! Benny e meus filhos são o melhor que tenho.

- Possuo um relacionamento muito bom com meus pequenos. É ótimo ter tudo devidamente arranjado após um divórcio, o que significa que nunca tivemos problemas a respeito dessa questão. Jamais quaisquer conflitos ou um cabo-de-guerra existiram por conta das crianças. Nós ajeitamos a situação segundo a maneira que considero mais adequada para nossos filhos. E, agora, os dois têm idade suficiente para compreender o que acontece a sua volta.

- Às vezes, eles podem ficar comigo por semanas, o que é bom para o descanso de seu pai, que cuida das crianças a maior parte do tempo. Há momentos, é claro, em que sinto uma falta terrível de meus filhos, mas, afinal, nós temos uns aos outros. Telefonamo-nos várias vezes por semana. Sinto algo tão bonito, quando atendo o telefone e ouço "Oi, aqui é o Hans, tudo bem?". As crianças conversam comigo a respeito de tudo, como, por exemplo, daquilo de que gostam e daquilo de que não gostam; da catapora que pegaram recentemente; e de como Hans está indo na escola, onde ele cursa a quarta série. Aprecio os momentos em que eles se voltam para mim, pois gosto de lhes dar conselhos e de lhes dar ajuda.

• As crianças com frequência visitam a casa de Benny e Anni-Frid, em Vallentuna, para a qual o casal se mudou, há cerca de um ano. Ali, Hans e Lotta têm seu próprio quarto. Em certas ocasiões, durante as férias de verão, tanto os dois filhos de Frida quanto os dois de Benny chegam a casa ao mesmo tempo, tornando-a animada.

- É maravilhoso viver fora da cidade, diz Anni-Frid. Temos a floresta ao virar a esquina. Isso é tudo com o que sonhamos. Frequentemente, fazemos longas caminhadas e esquiamos, quando há neve. Há uma grande diferença daqui em relação ao pequeno apartamento de cidade, em que vivemos, sem contar que o ar é bem mais puro.

- Verão passado, as crianças passaram bastante tempo aqui comigo. Hans acampou por um certo período, mas Lotta permaneceu aqui a estação toda. Gastamos quase o verão todo na piscina local, nadando e tomando banho de sol.

- Benny e eu não planejamos ter mais filhos, desde que já temos quatro, no total; mas acredito que, em relação a isso, você jamais pode estar certo.

- Ainda estamos trabalhando em nossa casa, pois há muito a ser feito. De fato, demora um pouco deixar uma casa em ordem. Muito do trabalho tem sido realizado por nós mesmos, que fizemos juntos o novo estofamento do sofá, por exemplo. Agora, estou costurando as cortinas e as capas dos movéis.

- Gosto de fazer coisas ao redor da casa. Sou eu quem mais cozinho; gosto de experimentar. Benny, por outro lado, não se diverte muito ao cozinhar, mas não se importa com a faxina. Em nosso tempo livre, vivemos como a maioria das famílias: assistimos à tv, conversamos, lemos, caminhamos com nosso cachorro. Gosto de desenhar e de pintar, bem como de costurar, atividades que sempre me agradaram. Ano passado, estudei na Tillskärarakademien (em português, algo equivalente a "Academia de Corte e Costura"), a fim de aprender a costurar profissionalmente.

- Temos discutido nosso casamento, mas - por mais estranho que isso possa parecer -, ainda não tivemos tempo para realizá-lo! Sobretudo pelo fato de que, uma vez decididos a nos casar, desejamos fazer uma longa festa de três dias de duração! Queremos convidar todos os nossos amigos e queremos nos divertir. A cerimônia, em si, na realidade, não é de extrema importância para nós, mas, ainda assim, desejamos efetuá-la. Um casamento na igreja é aquilo que almejamos, bem como eu planejo vestir um longo vestido branco de noiva.

- Obviamente, falamos muito sobre música em nosso lar, já que esse assunto diz respeito ao nosso trabalho, além de ser um de nossos hobbies. Nos últimos tempos, eu, Benny, Björn e Agnetha temos passado quase o tempo inteiro juntos, especialmente desde que nos tornamos vizinhos aqui, em Vallentuna. E é ótimo trabalhar em conjunto. A ocasião foi bastante quente, no entanto, quando, anos atrás, estivemos juntos pela primeira vez, num restaurante, durante uma turnê. O fato é que pouco nos conhecíamos, de maneira que, agora, conseguimos discutir sem o uso de quaisquer palavras duras entre nós.

- Deveríamos, realmente, escolher um nome para o nosso grupo. No momento, fazemos uso somente de nossos nomes, mas "Björn", "Agnetha" e "Frida" são de pronúncia difícil para estrangeiros. Agora, estamos trabalhando em conjunto em um álbum em inglês. E, nesta primavera, haverá um programa de TV e outro de rádio em que nos apresentaremos; já no verão, vamos viajar em turnê pelos folkparks por três meses; essas turnês, contudo, só ocorrerão na sexta, no sábado e no domingo. Atualmente, Benny e Björn estão trabalhando como produtores nos dias normais da semana; eu, por outro lado, planejo passar certo tempo fora e acredito que as crianças venham me visitar novamente.

There weren't much joy between ABBA members in 1981 anymore. After Benny and Frida's divorce the relationship between the four became little fun and enjoyable. That's why I don't have many pictures taken in that year on my files. The one below is one of the few that I have saved and the best from that year for me.

Yes, Benny and Frida are definitely an inspiration to many people around the world. Who doesn't want a love as deep as theirs? That's truth that they have divorced for 30 years, but who can forget their love story? Benny and Frida had fights and disagreements, but I'm sure they had lots of moments of fondness, confidence, support and complicity. They were best friends before great lovers and that's what gave a special meaning to their relationship.

Because of their great passion, I love doing video tributes for them and my newest one has been made with the amazing Chicago's You're The Inspiration. Hope you like it!

Anni-Frid Lyngstad recorded her first solo album, Frida, produced by Benny Andersson, her fiancé at that time, and Bengt Palmers, in 1971. Frida covered some great English and American songs for it, like the relaxing Suzanne (composed by Leonard Cohen & Owe Junsjö) and the deep En Ton Av Tystnad (Paul Simon & Owe Junsjö). My favorite album from that album is Lycka - or Happiness, in English -, composed by Benny & Björn, for which I made the tribute below.

Moving day

The photographers were always stalking ABBA members. And it wasn't different when Benny and Frida left their apartment at Old Town, to live in Lidingö, another area from Stockholm, in November, 1976. The photographers followed them in their moving day, as shows the photo below.

However, Benny and Frida didn't seem angry or annoyed with the intrusion. Indeed, they seemed very relaxed and happy with the photographers. ABBA members and their well-disposed spirit...
