Frida on her love for Benny and her children

Anni-Frid Lyngstad about her struggle with hopelessness and depressions:
BENNY GIVES ME COURAGE IN MY DARKEST MOMENTS
Article originally published in the Swedish magazine Min Värld, in 1973

- Last summer it was something began to happen with me, says Anni-Frid Lyngstad. I had a new inner security, something I've been missing before. A new harmony in my existance.
- I had taken the whole summer off and my two children were here with me. I was able to relax and felt very good. And the whole time my relationship with Benny was also very nice and harmonic.
- Then, when I started to work in the fall - on a tour with Roffe Berg - then I suddenly felt the change. Suddenly it was such a joy to work. I dared to let go like never before. I felt more free and more secure.

• Frida has had some success lately, both as a solo artist and in a group together with her fiancé Benny Andersson and their best friends Agnetha Fältskog and Björn Ulvaeus. Just recently they had a number one hit on Europatoppen.
Anni-Frid has had the chance to travel around in the world. This winter she sang in Japan. Recently she participated in a song festival in Venezuela for a week. She has done television in Austria.
- In some way it feels much more fun to sing this year, says Frida. And what I'm most pleased about is that it's going so well for the four of us. I like it best when I sing together with the others. Then I get a feeling of security from them. We have a security among us. I don't have to feel alone, little, scared and nervous. And it's wonderful to work together with Benny.
- Benny means so much to me, both in private and in my work. He is always there for me. He gives me strength.
- I used to think it was difficult to work and live together. That it would make you tired of each other when you're together all the time. But now, when we are more settled in our relationship and we feel safe with each other, it's just comfortable.
- Benny and I are quite different, and naturally there has been conflicts and missunderstandings sometimes. Benny is more outgoing, happy and positive. I'm more of a serious kind of person.
- I'm sensitive and can get depressed, fall into dark periods when everything feels difficult and insurmountable. Last spring, for example, I was having a time like that. One thinks everything is pointless and boring. You want to reinvent yourself. Maybe change what you are doing. Sometimes I have even thought about giving up the singing. I've been thinking "What am I doing"?
- During times like that Benny is always there for me and he gives me new courage. He won't accept that I let myself fall down into darkness and despair, instead he makes me do something. And I have become much move even tempered now, calmer.
- Benny has a lot of patience with me, and with everything. He is warm and tender. I can talk with him about anything, I don't have to keep feeling bottled up inside. When you feel that someone like Benny cares so much for you - then it becomes an enormous strength. It makes you strong. And safe.
- I could never live on my own. I have a very big need to live together with someone. Before I met Benny - after I left my old life in Eskilstuna - I was alone for quite a while. It was horrible! I could never stand to go through that again.
- The most important thing for me is together with someone and make it work. The career comes second.

• Anni-Frid has been married before and has two children, Hans, 10 years old and Lotta, 6 years old. They mostly live with their father in Eskilstuna, but regularly comes to visit Anni-Frid and Benny.
- Being together with my children is also very important to me, says Anni-Frid. If I didn't have the children, my life would seem empty! Benny and the children are the best I have.
- I have a very good relationship with my children. It's very good when you can have that arrangement after a divorce. It has never been a problem for us. Never any conflicts or a tug-of-war over the children. We have arranged it the way we both feel is the best for the children. And now they are old enough to understand how it works.
- Sometimes they can be with me for weeks. It's good for their father to get some rest every now and then, since he has them most of the time. Naturally, I have missed them terribly sometimes, but we do have each other. We talk to each other over the phone several times a week. It's such a nice feeling when I pick up the phone and hear "Hi, it's Hans, how are you?". They tell me about everything, their likes and dislikes. About when they recently had the chicken pox. How Hans is doing in school. He is in the fourth grade now. I like it when they turn to me, I enjoy giving them advice and help.

• The children often comes and visit Anni-Frid and Benny at their house in Vallentuna, where they moved about a year ago. There the children have their own room. Sometimes during the holidays both Anni-Frid's two children and Benny's two come at the same time. That makes for a lively time in the house.
- It's wonderful to live outside of the city, says Anni-Frid. We have the woods just around the corner. It's everything we dreamed it would be. We often take long walks and go skiing when there's snow. It's such a difference to the small city apartment and the air is so much cleaner.
- Last summer the children spent a lot of time here with me. Hans went to camp for a while, but Lotta was here all summer. We spent almost all of our time at the local swimmingpool, swimming and sunbathing.
- Benny and I don't plan on having any more children, we already have four together. But I guess you never know.
- We are still working on the house. There is still a lot to be done. It takes time to get a house in order. We have done a lot of the work ourselves. We did the new upholstery on the couches together and I have been sewing curtains and covers for the furniture.
- I enjoy doing things around the house. It's mostly me who does the cooking. I like experimenting. Benny is not so fond of cooking, but he doesn't mind cleaning. We live like most families in our spare time. We watch TV, talk, read, take walks with our dog. I draw and paint and I enjoy sewing. I have always liked that. Last year I went through Tillskärarakademien to learn how sew professionally.
- We have discussed getting married. But we haven't - as strange as it may sound - had the time to do it yet! Mainly because we have decided that once we do get married we will have a three day long wedding party! We will invite all our friends and have a great time. The ceremony itself is really not that important to us, but we want that as well. We do want a church wedding and I want to wear a long, white dress.
- We talk a lot about music at our home of course. It's both a hobby and our profession. Lately the four of us, Benny and I and Björn and Agnetha, have spent almost all our time together. Especially since we are neighbours here in Vallentuna now. And it's working out great. The first time when we worked together it became quite heated, it was on a restaurant tour a couple of years ago. Back then we didn't know each other that well. But now we have learned to discuss without any hard words among us.
- We really ought to get a group name. Right now we just use our names, but "Björn", "Agnetha" and "Frida" are difficult to pronounce abroad. Right now we are working on an album in English together. And this spring there will be a TV-show and a radio show where we will be hosting. During summer we will go on tour in the folkparks for three months. But it will only be Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Benny and Björn are working as producers during the normal weekdays. I plan to have some time off and I think the children will come and visit me again.

- Verão passado, algo começou a acontecer comigo, diz Anni-Frid Lyngstad.

Ele sempre me apoia, dando-me força.

- Verão passado, as crianças passaram bastante tempo aqui comigo.

A Zealous mother and a talented singer

The Norwegian wave is here - article originally published in the Swedish magazine Allers, in 1968

1968fridaathome_1Anni-Frid Lyngstad is a longlegged child, who right now is getting acquainted with the Swedish folkpark audiences. She is out there in the same package as Lasse Lönndahl and Bengt Hallberg's Orchestra. Those two don't need an introduction, but Anni-Frid does. Who is this girl?
She is part of that ongoing Norwegian wave that has brought many performers to Sweden; Per Asplin, Arve Opsahl, Nora Brockstedt, Sölvi Wang, Grynet Molvig, Wenche Mynche and Eva Henning.
   - But I see myself as Swedish, says Anni-Frid. I was only one year old when I came to Sweden with my grandmother. My grandmother has always been like a mother to me and she lives very close to where I live. She is often babysitting when I'm out touring.
Anni-Frid is a very modest girl. She is the mother of two even though she looks just like a child herself.
She is one of the "discoveries" from the "Hylands Hörna" TV-show. On that show she sang "En Ledig Dag". It became a huge success. "Svensktoppen" was just around the corner as were the folkparks.
   - But I wanted to combine my singing with my role as a housewife and mother. My home and my children have always come first for me. I married young. I was only 17. Not long after the first baby, Hans, was born. I loved to sing. I started early, I was only 13 - and that was too young if you were to abide by the union's rule. I sang "illegally" to get money for my studies.
1964fridawithherband   - I got a job in an Eskilstuna band which was called Ragnar Fredrikssons. We toured all over Sörmland and performed in restaurants. Today I know that it didn't give me very much - apart from routine and experience.
   - Later on there was this national vocalist competition with the finally on Skansen in Stockholm. Lasse Holmqvist was the host of the talentshow and he said that down in Skåne (where he came from) they didn't have any beautiful longlegged girls like me. I won that contest - thanks to the self confidence Lasse gave me.
   - After that the offers started coming. But I still wanted to be a mother first, then a singer. I turned a lot of offers down. I "Fri entré" last fall I enjoyed a huge success. It was then I understood that there might be a future for me on the stage.
   - My husband says: Now you have the chance, Anni-Frid. Of course you must go. You can have a great career. You are actually too good to be playing only with us. We have nothing more to teach you.
   - That was very thoughtfull, warm words. But at the same time I wondered: How much do I know? I got the chance to tour with Karl-Erik Thörn, the guy who had two songs on "Svensktoppen" this March. But his tour would be going the whole summer and I didn't want to travel around that long. So it was arranged for me to work with some other guys. When I heard who they were I was just in shock! Who thought of pairing us up for this? Me - a debutant - touring with real professionals like Lasse Lönnsdahl and Bengt Hallberg! But they were so nice when I met them, I didn't have anything to worry about. I'm sure they will teach me so many usefull things this summer. I couldn't have asked for better company or support!
   - Lasse encourages me and applauds. He definitely has the rhythm and he knows what the people wants. I'm so happy working with him.
The mother of two from Västeråsvägen 13 will definitely be one of this summer's hotest chicks. She is beautiful to look at, has a voice that is both unusual and very pleasant. She has had some routine and is now on a first name basis with the managers of the different folk parks.
Her correspondence isn't that vast yet, once in a while she will receive a fan letter.
An admirer wrote: "I saw you on Hylands Hörna, and you were the guest who sang best and looked most beautiful. I like your eyes and your long redbrown hair. If you come to our folkpark this summer I would like to meet you. I'm just an ordinary farmer with 22 hectare for growing crops and a few acres where I grow christmas trees. After your show in the park we could go to Knutte på Gästgivaregården and have cheesecake. It's very tasty. Please drop me a line when you can."
   - When you get letters like that it means that you are accepted by a lot of different people in this country.
   - You married young?
   - Many people have said that I married too young. That such a marriage between artists wouldn't last very long. But it has been good. My man is a wonderful father and husband - he is much better at that than being a professional musician. He only plays for fun in his spare time.
   - I'm both happy and grateful about getting this chance. But you should never be too happy as they say. I'm sure I will miss my family terribly while I'm out on the tour.
She will expand her repertoire, she is going to look great during these outdoors summer night concerts. To a lot of people this young woman will be a big and pleasant surprise. She has gone the long way to success, but that doesn't make the success any smaller.
Now Eskilstuna have two girls to send out to the folkparks this summer. Firstly Towa Carson and secondly Anni-Frid Lyngstad. It's hard to speculate which one of them will draw the biggest crowds, but one thing is sure, if Anni-Frid comes to her hometown Narvik i Norway - the place will be completely packed. Because in Narvik they haven't forgotten how beautifully she sang on "Hylands Hörna" on TV.
   - So why do so many Norwegian performers come to Sweden?
   - Because there are more jobs available and the pay is better than in Norway.

Casei-me jovem. Tinha apenas 17 anos.
   - Lasse me incentiva e me aplaude.
   - Muitas pessoas dizem que me casei jovem demais.

Frida in a 1979 interview

Anni-Frid is not jealous - interview originally published on Dutch magazine Hitkrant, in March 1979

Mrs. Andersson, who was still called Miss Lyngstad until recently, is tired. Indeed, a trip from Stockholm to the Swiss winter sports resort Leysin is certainly not a walk in the park. And on top of that, you have to appear in front of the BBC television cameras immediately after your arrival, and right after that an exhausting press conference. Oh, well, that's life when your name is Anni-Frid and you are a singer in the group ABBA...

"Oh, my!" Frida sighs when I'm sitting opposite her in the hotel room. "This has been a terrible day. Everything went wrong". But still, she is willing to give an interview. After all, ABBA and Hitkrant are old friends.
"That's true", she says. "Back then in The Hague, we've launched the first issue of your magazine and through your readers, we've acquired a lot of new fans." There, the conversation has taken off.

Fans
Yes, the fans: you are having millions of them. How do you cope with that?
"You probably know that our Swedish fan club, that is located in the same building as our record company, is very active. We have a lot of interaction and they are doing everything they can to keep our fans informed all over the world. But privately, I get a lot of fan mail as well and I answer all the letters that I like personally".
Do you have time for that?
"Oh, well, I'm managing. Apart from that, I think that our fans simply have the right to get an answer, so I make time for it!"

Marriage
Shortly before our meeting, during the press conference, somebody had asked why Anni-Frid and Benny didn't get married until recently. Her response was: "Because we never had the time for it", but I'm not falling for that.
"Oh no, that was just a simple way to give an answer. The fact is: after about ten years of living together, we felt that our relationship had become so good that we decided to get married".
Does it make any difference, marriage or living together?
"Oh, no", Frida smiles. "I think that we got married to... ehm... consolidate our relationship. Is that the right word? I think it is".

Agnetha
I almost forgot: I've brought a Hitkrant badge for the ABBA members.
"How nice", Frida exclaims and pins it on. "May I give the others to Benny, Björn and Agnetha or do you want to do that yourself?"
No, that's fine. And this brings me to the next question. What do you think about the fact that Agnetha is always the one who gets the most attention?
Frida smiles cordially: "Well, I'm not jealous! Look, Agnetha simply is the symbol of Sweden: blonde, young and beautiful".
The only thing you are not out of those three is blonde.
This remark is met with an enchanting smile.

"Jazz"
Music. It's impossible to ignore this subject while talking to an ABBA member. "This business is my life", Frida says. "I can't imagine myself ever doing anything else".
Who are your favourites when it comes to music?
"The BeeGees and Earth, Wind & Fire", Frida says decisively. "And lately, I'm listening a lot to 'Jazz', the latest album by Queen. I am a Queen fan. Recently, I've seen them perform live in Stockholm and, although I prefer their records to their live performances, I still thought it was a memorable experience!"

Our conversation lasts longer than anticipated; Frida keeps talking. About ABBA's stage clothes that she designs herself most of the time. About the new album that is due to be released in the beginning of April. About ABBA's world tour that will kick off after the summer. About bad music, that she never listens to, and about her Maserati, that is not allowed to be driven at a truly high speed in Sweden. But Mrs. Andersson is tired. I get up: "Tomorrow in front of the cameras again, bright and early?"
"Oh, well", Frida says. "That's your fate when you're singing in a group like ABBA...".

A sra.

Aí, a conversa ganha impulso.

"Oh, bem, eu me organizo.

E isso me leva à pergunta seguinte.

"Não posso me imaginar fazendo qualquer outra coisa".

Frida about her conquests in life

My children hardly knew a family-life, but they do have a mother to talk to, even about their most intimate feelings - interview originally published in the Dutch magazine Libelle, in 1985

Anni-Frid Lyngstad (39) was born in the Norwegian village Narvik. At the age of 2 she lost her mother and was brought up by her grandmother. She met her father for the first time 7 years ago. "He came too late to still be a real father to me", she says in an interview Libelle had with her. She talks about her childhood and about her 2 children, whom she wanted to give all she missed herself as a child, about her 2 marriages and the time she travelled the world with her children and ABBA.

Anni-Frid Lyngstad is in Rotterdam, on the eleventh floor of the Hilton Hotel. Downstairs fans are waiting patiently for an autograph. She is strikingly young with her purple-red punk hairdo. Politely and very self-confident she says: "I would appreciate it if you didn't smoke here". She hasn't quite recovered yet from the time difference, after a visit to her daughter in New York. No coffee, but water. A thick, knitted cardigan around her shoulders. "I might be getting the flu", she says quietly. For a moment she looks like the image many people have of her. A somewhat sad, lonely woman, who still hasn't found happiness, despite all the success in the world. An image that may find its origin in her childhood and that's kept alive by the fact that she is still alone after her divorce from Benny Andersson. Her loneliness is something that's brought up in interviews a lot as well, so much so that it has almost become her trademark. Unintentionally, so it seems later.

Frida was born 39 years ago in the Norwegian village Narvik at a time that didn't hold much promise for the future. She's the daughter of a German officer, who returned to his home country after the war. 7 years ago she met him for the first time. "It was all very strange. I received a letter from someone who claimed to be my half-brother. He had read a biography about me and came across some things he had also heard from his father. As it turned out, that indeed was my father. I looked him up, mainly out of curiosity. He came too late to still be a real father to me. I was a grown woman. As a child, he could have meant something to me, but now not anymore. Still the meeting meant a great deal to me and we kept in touch ever since. It was a very strange emotion, when we met eye to eye. You know: this is my father. But all the emotions going with that, were strange to me. No, I never blamed him for anything. After all, he was a victim of the circumstances as well. As a German officer he hardly could stay in Norway after the war".

Her mother died when Frida was 2 years old, after that she was brought up by her grandmother. She moved with her to the Swedish town Eskilstuna, because in Narvik her history was stained.
"I don't like to talk about my childhood", says Frida. "Not because it's a period I want to forget – there were plenty of happy times as well – but it doesn't suit my philosophy of life. I take everyday as it comes. That's the reason why I don't want to look too much at the future. It's crazy, but this summer I was back in Eskilstuna. I hadn't been there since my grandmother died, sadly before ABBA took off. When I drove off, I couldn't imagine what it looked like anymore. What I saw was the memory, the city of my childhood".

Frida has 2 children herself. Daughter Lotta is 18 years old and a student in New York. Son Hans is 22 and lives and works in Stockholm.
"He writes songs, plays in a band, produces and arranges and is, well, very talented. I see in him much of the same urge as I had to get into the music industry. It's something magical, something that can't be explained. I never understood where it came from, it just was there. With Hans it may be easier to understand, for he has a mother in the music industry. But on the other hand, Lotta is finding her own way as well".
Talking about her children, Frida slowly becomes more personal. When we talk about raising children, she says: "Every mother wants to give her children what se didn't have herself. Something I have always missed, is a mother to talk to. Despite all her efforts, my grandmother never was able to fulfil that role. There was too much age difference. I know that my children do have a mother like that. We are not afraid to talk to each other, even when it comes to the most intimate feelings. That's a good thing. That they trust me, are not afraid to come to me. I see them often, yes. A few times a year I fly to New York and Stockholm, and Lotta and Hans also visit London regularly, where I've been living the past 2 years. Of course it's a shame that we're living so far apart, and sometimes I miss them very much, but we all lead our own lives. I tried to raise them like that, as independent people with responsibility, who have both feet on the ground, capable to make their own decisions. I think I've succeeded. I have tremendous respect for the way they lead their lives. They are able to manage themselves. That's a big relief, and makes missing them not painful. Actually, it's a good feeling being so young and having such grown-up children. I do worry if they are happy as well. You can guide children and make them able to lead their lives. But it's no guarantee for happiness. Happiness is something that comes from within, it can't be taught. They have to experience everything in life themselves. All I can do is be there when they need me, to talk to. Even if they are on the other side of the world, I'm still their mother. I keep feeling the responsibility. Something I've learned myself is that communication is an important tool to happiness. Communication between people is something difficult. People very seldom manage to really communicate. That's what I've told my children as well. It's important for them to open up, be friendly to people, and really try to connect. You can save yourself a lot of trouble by doing that. Communicating also means listening very carefully, understanding how people are. With me it wasn't like I instantly realized I wasn't communicating, it took me several years. My divorce from Benny has been a turning point in that respect. That's the time that I really needed to connect to other people, more than ever. To Benny, but also to friends. When we separated, I had to make a decision in life. I looked at everything I experienced up to that point. I wanted to find out how to continue. During that time I started talking. For the first time I opened up completely. That was probably the best experience in my life thus far, and it meant a great deal to me. I now have confidence in myself and life. Because then I realized what was really wrong. I know myself much better now, and that means I'm no longer afraid, I'm much stronger and I can encounter people openly. The fact that Benny and I weren't really communicating was an important reason for our divorce, of course apart from some other reasons. It was only during the last 4 weeks we were together, that we really talked. I had the feeling that was the first time. It's strange, but you see that happening often when relationships come to an end. It's as if you suddenly realize you're going to lose something, and want to get the pieces in the right place at the last minute. It's also important to know why it happens. Otherwise it's going to drag on. It mean that partners have to speak their mind, something that apparently wasn't possible during the relationship. I sometimes compare it with people who are dying. You often hear they use their last hours to set the record straight. For me, a divorce is partly dying. Maybe that's why we had such good talks those last few weeks. To be honest, it was the best period of our marriage. I have no regrets. The conclusion remained the same after those 4 weeks. But the result is that Benny and I are still good friends. It was a good divorce, as far as you can call a divorce that. The sadness remains, but you can make it easier on each other. We did just that and I'm glad for it. Benny and I can still talk about intimate things, good moments we had together. Those are emotions you only shared with each other, something you can't talk about to somebody else. If you couldn't ever talk about it again, if there would be no friendship left at all, it would seem those things never happened. As if there never was a marriage. After my divorce from Benny I got a lot of support from friends. They filled the void and made sure I didn't step into a new relationship immediately. I don't think I would have made it without my friends. I wouldn't have existed the way I do now. That's why friendship means very much to me. Of course, when you love someone so much that you are able to share your life with him, that's the best there is. But relationships like that are more rare than good friends. My friends were sensible enough to not be sad with me, but they pushed me forward. They made sure I didn't give up. It made me appreciate them more than I already did".

The interview turns philosophical.
"I divorced twice in my life, and that didn't happen in vain. It made me think. About the world around me and about myself. In a way I believe in destiny, that there's a meaning in things that happen. Not that you can sit back in a chair and wait what's coming to you, no, you have to work at it yourself. Try to create something positive out of the negative. You have to fight for things in life that you really want. My aim is to know as much as possible about myself, get to know myself. Know why I'm here. I will have to work my whole life to get there, and still I will never reach it. I will have died before I reach it. No, it's not idealistic. Everyone should explore that, to live consciously. Be happy with small things. At the moment I'm successful. I've achieved everything I dreamed of as a child. I'm a wealthy woman, have money, two fantastic children and great friends. When it comes to big things I have no complains. That's exactly what makes me return to details. To value small things in a way I never did in the past. It gives me so much more in life. It's time for awareness. The main advantage of having money, is that it gives me the time to think about other things. In the past I was busy fighting for my existence. Not anymore. I have the time to learn about myself. At the moment that's the main value in life for me, it makes me happy. Indeed, I'm not lonely like so many people seem to think. I keep saying that, but people don't listen well enough. Or maybe they think it's more interesting if I am lonely. In that case, I have to disappoint them. Believe it or not, I'm really very happy. In the sense that I find my existence very satisfying at the moment. The real feeling of happiness is just a small moment, a fleeting thing. It can happen totally unexpected. You can suddenly get this warm feeling, that makes you feel on top of the world. But it can't be maintained. That's not necessary either. A short moment is enough, you can live on that for a long time. I know for many people being happy means having a family. I live alone and that's the reason people assume I'm lonely and unhappy. For me it's more important to find harmony within myself, and that there are people around me who love me and understand me. That doesn't have to be a family. I'm not afraid to live my life alone. It's a fear many people have. A family gives a sense of belonging, something to fall back on that no-one can take away. Unfortunately it often turns out to be an illusion. I don't have that urge to commit myself, never had it. If it comes, it can be fantastic, but you mustn't pursue it. I live my own life and it makes me happy. Maybe it has to do with the fact I never had a family-life myself, and had little of that with my children as well. When I divorced my first husband, the children had to stay with him, because I couldn't go anywhere. When Benny and I were together, it never came to having a family. Of course my children came to visit me, but it was the start of ABBA. The start of a circus that took us all over the world. Lotta and Hans travelled along occasionally, but you couldn't call it a normal family-life. A family where mother is having dinner ready in the evening, when father comes home from work. I never knew this kind of life, and I don't think I could live it. My children couldn't either. No matter how strange life with ABBA was, they did enjoy it. They lived among people who cared about each other, who were friendly and treated them as grown-ups, not as children. It was one big family. Altogether it lasted for 10 years, and none of us would want to have missed it, including Lotta and Hans. We still feel fortunate for having been able to experience it".

Pela primeira vez, abri-me completamente.

Elas me fizeram pensar. No momento, estou bem-sucedida.

A great article about Frida

On my blog I will always publish an article about ABBA, Frida or Benny & Frida in English with its respective translation into Portuguese, in order to help my friends who speak Portuguese, like me, in their reading.

FRIDA - THE WOMAN AND THE FASHION LOVER - article originally published in the Swedish magazine Damenas, on January 1979
Her name is Mrs. Anni-Frid Lyngstad. But she simply calls herself Frida. She gladly admits that she loves being famous. She can be a little reserved before you get to know her. In fact, she is really shy and is scared that people will expect her to be something that she is not. So what is she like? Frida is a person with German neatness and Norwegian stamina. She has been through many many depressions, but today she is more harmonic than ever. A lot of that she gives her husband Benny Andersson credit for. They share a unique trust and openess between them. Frida is also a very warm and caring person. For example, she sit through a whole night talking to someone who has a problem. And she doesn't quit until the problem is solved. Her eyes can turn really grim when she gets angry, but she is not the one to hold a grudge. But she likes to clear the air and part as friends. She thinks that's the only way to have good relationships with people. She is also as stubborn as a mule. And she has a great sense of humour. She can put on a one-woman-show when she is in the mood for that. She is very witty and quick with biting comments.

She has very high demands on others, but even higher expectations for herself. She is a professional when she is working and ambitious to the edge of perfection. She never consideres anything complete until she is completely satisified with the result. She never turns down a fan asking for an autograph and is very humbled by her audience. If you are, you will never become a diva.

Frida is the typical night person. But of course she has to get up early in the mornings to be able to fit everything into her busy schedule, but she needs a couple of hours to be 100% ready to tackle the new day. She always does her own make-up. She has learned how by watching others. Before TV-recordings or shows it can take up to three hours to get the hair and make-up ready.

At least three times a week she practices balett. Partly for the exercise and partly for the training to be on stage. Sometimes she even manages to play some tennis. Frida has no problems with her weight. She starts everyday with porridge, during the day she never eats anything but fish and vegetables. She doesn't drink anything stronger than white wine. But every now and she has a chocolate biscuit.

When Frida was a little girl she went to the library and borrowed ten books every week. She has always enjoyed reading and apart from the four daily papers she reads a lot of books. During one period she only read female authors like Doris Lessing and Anaïs Nin. Among her favourites are The Lord of the Rings by Tolkien and all Leon Uris' books, especially Mila 18.

Wintertime is a difficult time for Frida. She would prefer to go into hibernation. The darkness and the cold affects her mind. Then she turns to art. Christos packaged things, Margrittes surreal paintings and Francis Bacons work are things that makes her happy. Every now and then she paints something herself. She got an A in drawing at school.

Stageoutfits must be glamourus according to Frida. She would never consider wearing jeans on stage. There has to be a feeling of party when she performs. She is woman and carefull about her femininity and does not consider herself a "sex symbol". Frida loves clothes and likes to "dress up". She is also convinced that women dress up for other women's sake, not for the men's.

There's a lot of sadness in Frida, but funnily enough she is not very romantic. She is happy with her life and happy with herself. It's something you have got to be to be able to give of yourself to others.

Ela nunca usaria jeans no palco.
